Jakub Krčín of Jelčany (1535-1604) became famous for designing and making ponds in South Bohemia. Notably he constructed Rožmberk, the largest pond in Bohemia, as well as a system of canals and drains. Many of his waterworks are still in operation for breeding fish and for protection from floods.
