Benjamin Apthorp Gould (1824-1896), founder of the Astronomical Journal (1849) and associated with “Gould's Belt” of bright stars (1879), was the first director of the Córdoba Observatory and initiator of astronomical and meteorological studies in Argentina, including the Uranometria Argentina.
