Swiss-Hungarian technical engineer Ábrahám Ganz (1814-1867) opened an ironworks in Buda and was father of the Ganz companies. He filed patent applications for perfecting a process for manufacturing chill-casting of wheels for railway carriages. This minor planet was discovered on the 189th anniversary of his birth.
