Sofiya Mikhajlovna Varzar (1878-1957), an expert on the dynamics of minor planets, was on the staff of the Institute of Theoretical Astronomy from 1934 to 1951. She made a major contribution to improving orbits and calculating ephemerides of many minor planets.
