Charles Fauvel (1904-1979) was a French aviator who in 1933 invented the flying wing. He solved the problem of the longitudinal stability of a double-curved wing by arranging for the center of gravity to be just ahead of one-quarter of the total length of the wing. The name was suggested by R. Josse.
