From 1957 to 1962 Mikhail Grigor'evich Grigor'ev (1917-1981) was chief of the space-vehicle launch site now known as the Plesetsk cosmodrome. Under his leadership and thanks to his strong will this cosmodrome in the Archangel region of Russia became the most active in the world.
