Stijn Streuvels (pseudonym of Frank Lateur, 1871-1969) was a Flemish novelist and a nephew of the poet Guido Gezelle. His work describes everyday situations realistically, which, by influence of Russian fatalism, may evolve dramatically. However, his masterpiece De Vlaschaard (1907) strikes a more optimistic view of life.
