Friedrich Daniel Ernst Schleiermacher (1768–1834), German philosopher and Protestant theologian, worked in Halle and Berlin. He contributed to theology, ethics, science, hermeneutics and aesthetics. His main philosophical work is the Dialektik (1839), but he is also known for his translations of Plato {see planet  (5451)}. (M 40709) _ _.
