Through four decades of meticulous observations, Arlo U. Landolt (1935– ) has established the widely used Landolt Photometric Standard Stars. Professor at Louisiana State University, he was secretary of the American Astronomical Society during 1980–1989 and since 1995, the year he received its Van Biesbroeck {see planet  (1781)} Award.
