Bertrand Christophe (b. 1976), the discoverer's son, was named for Bertrandou le Fifre, a character in Edmond Rostand's play Cyrano de Bergerac. During the siege of Arras, Cyrano asks Bertrandou to play a Gascogne song with his fife to distract the cadets from their hunger.
