Gaspard Gustave de Coriolis (1792-1843) was a French mathematician and physicist who showed that the laws of motion could be used in a rotating frame by adding an extra force, the coriolis acceleration, to the equations of motion (Sur les èquations du mouvement relatif des systèmes des corps, 1835).
