Sigmund Jähn (1937– ) was the first German to travel into space. In August 1978 he spent nine days in the Soviet space station Salyut 6, together with the Russian commander Valery Bykovsky. Today Jähn works in the astronaut training center of DLR, the German Research Center for Aeronautics and Astronautics. (M 41942) _ _.
