Bonaventura Cavalieri (1598–1647) was a friar and a professor at the University of Bologna. He developed the method of indivisibles, which enabled him to find integrals of polynomials and centers of gravity of many curvilinear figures. His work ultimately influenced Leibniz’ {see planet  (5149)} discovery of the calculus. (M 42366) _ _.
