Barry Burke, who works at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory, has spent his career designing many of the world's best CCD sensors. They include the 2K × 4K sensors that are used in most of the leading ground-based observatories and the orthogonal transfer CCDs that are providing breakthrough technology for Pan-STARRS.
