Philippe Dupouy (b. 1952) founded the Observatoire de Dax in 1978. A genius handyman, he built a planetarium showing more than 1000 stars and had a key role in developing the T60 telescope at Pic du Midi. With Michel Meunier, he was the first amateur to discover a comet (C/1997 J2) using a remote-control telescope.
