Named in honor of Hans Vehrenberg (1910–1991) of Düsseldorf: publisher, amateur astronomer, and creator of atlases of the sky. His Falkauer Atlas and Atlas Stellarum are widely used by amateur and professional astronomers interested in or conducting research on minor planets and comets.
