Named for Christopher Wren (1632–1723), British architect and astronomer who was professor of astronomy at Gresham College, London, and later professor of astronomy at Oxford. Wren prepared a scheme for rebuilding London after the Great Fire of 1666, his most noted building being St. Paul’s Cathedral. He also designed and built the Royal Observatory at Greenwich in 1675.
