Claude R. Canizares (b. 1945) is a renowned physicist, the Bruno Rossi Professor of Physics at MIT, Associate Director of the Chandra X-ray Observatory, and former director of MIT's Center for Space Research. This naming is upon his retirement as Vice President of MIT.
