Named for Baerbel K. Lucchitta, planetary geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey. She is a leading investigator of the geology of Mars and the satellites Europa and Ganymede. She is especially well known for her work on the effects of landslides and ice movement on Mars and on mapping the ice cap and the flow of ice in Antarctica. (M 17658) _ _.
