Curate Joseph Mohr (1792-1848) and his organist Franz Xaver Gruber (1789-1863) are the creators of the carol Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht (“Silent Night! Holy Night!”), which was first heard on Christmas Eve in 1818 in Oberndorf near Salzburg.
