Named in honor of Jan Lub (1946– ), Dutch astronomer in Leiden, on the occasion of his 51st birthday. After studying in Amsterdam he worked for the European Southern Observatory in Chile and Munich before moving to the Leiden Observatory. While in Leiden he was director of the Observatório Roque de los Muchachos for several years. Lub’s fields of interest are photoelectric observations of RR Lyrae variables and other objects.
