Austrian-born Lisa Kaltenegger (b. 1977), at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics since 2005, is involved in the use of space-based instruments to collect sufficient photons from extrasolar planets to characterize their physical and chemical composition and examine their potential habitability.
