Named for Johann Jacob Froberger (1616–1667), organist and the foremost German keyboard composer of his day. A pupil of Frescobaldi, he combined features of many national styles. His toccate, full of imaginative chromatic harmonies, were copied out and imitated by J. S. Bach {see planet  (1814)}. (M 32096) _ _.
