Josef Hudec (1895-1972) was a Czech amateur astronomer. He made visual observations and drawings of the solar photosphere and was a keen popularizer of astronomy. He built a public observatory in the town of Kroměříž during the last three years of his life. The name was suggested by J. Koukal.
