Named for English composer Gustav Holst (1874–1934). One of Holst’s best-known and most popular compositions is the symphonic suite The Planets, written between 1914 and 1916. The titles of the seven movements are taken from the name of the seven major planets (excluding the Earth) known at the time the piece was written. Although the ideas for the scores are based on the astrological character of each planet, the work is nevertheless enjoyed by astronomers throughout the world. (M 12807) _ _.
