The Rubicon (Latin “Rubico”) was a small river that separated ancient Cisalpine Gaul from Italy. In 49 B.C. Caesar crossed this river without authorization. From this we have the expression “ crossing the Rubicon”, which means performing a step that definitely commits a person to a given course of action. (M 39657) _ _.
