Polino, a typical village with about 250 inhabitants, is the smallest municipality in Italy. It rises 836 m above sea level in the province of Terni, Umbria, overhung by an antique polygonal tower in an area of woods and pastures. In 1248 pope Innocent IV granted it to the duchy of Spoleto.
