George Carroll (1902-1983) was a builder of precision instruments, heliostats, refractor and reflector telescopes from the mid-1950s through the 1970s. The discovery of (144633) was made using his largest telescope, the 0.76-m Cassegrain/Newtonian reflector at Stony Ridge Observatory in California.
