Paolo Battaini (1955-2013) was a talented amateur astronomer at the Schiaparelli Observatory in Varese and a gifted popularizer, especially on the human and scientific legacy of Giovanni Virginio Schiaparelli, and the exploration of Mars. His friendship and integrity will never be forgotten.
