Named for the daughter of Phorcys and Ceto and sister of Gorgons, Sirens and Graeae. The sea nymph Scylla and Charybdis {see planet  (388)} guarded the strait between Sicily and Italy, expanding her long necks and six heads to remove one sailor from each passing ship. (H 20) _ _.
