French poet Paul Eluard (Eugène Grindel, 1895-1952) played an important role in the surrealistic movement. His early poems are colored by fervent pacifism (Poèmes de la Paix), but his greatness comes from the inspiration of his muses, particularly his second wife Nush (Capitale de la douleur, 1926).
