Oto Obůrka (1909–1982), professor at Brno University of Technology, founded the Nicholas Copernicus Observatory there and led it for 20 years. He established a program, aimed at young amateurs, for monitoring short-period variable stars. He was an honorary president of the International Union of Amateur Astronomers. (M 41388) _ _.
