Antoine Baumé (1728-1804) was a chemist at the Ecole de Pharmacie in Paris. Famous for his invention of the scale hydrometer for measuring the density of liquids (subsequently expressed in degrees Baumé), he wrote the three-volume practical work on pharmacy Chimie expérimentale et raisonnée (1773).
