Named in honor of Andrew Claude de la Cherois Crommelin (1865–1939), who worked and wrote extensively on the orbits of comets and minor planets. Together with P. H. Cowell {see minor planet  (1898)}, Crommelin computed the orbit of Jupiter VIII and identified appearances of Halley’s comet back to the year –239. (M 3827) _ _.
