Amateur astronomer and naturalist Salvatore Furia (b. 1924) founded in 1956 in Varese the “Societa' Astronomica G. V. Schiaparelli” with an astronomical observatory and a citadel of science: a place unique in Italy open to volunteers and visitors to “build a bridge between people and science”.
