Named in memory of Albert Einstein (1879–1955), the greatest scientist of the twentieth century. Although Einstein was born in Germany and died in the U.S., it is particularly fitting that his name be given to a Bernese minor planet, for he laid the foundations of his revolutionary scientific thoughts while working as an examiner in the Swiss Patent Office in Berne.
