Maurice Fréchet (1878–1973), a student of Hadamard {see planet  (10382)} and graduate of the Ěcole Normale Supérieur, was a pioneer in the study of the point set topology of abstract spaces and of functionals defined thereon. He introduced, among others, the concepts of compactness, completeness and separability. (M 42679) _ _.
