Shuji Nakamura (b. 1954), born in Ehime prefecture, is an electronics engineer best known as the inventor of the blue LED and the violet-blue laser, as well as for his work on gallium nitride. Nakamura has served as a professor at the University of California at Santa Barbara since 1999.
