Named by the discoverer in honor of his wife, Maryanna Ruth Thomas. During the 1960s she measured positions of comets and minor planets in the program then conducted by Elizabeth Roemer {see planet  (1657)} at the U.S. Naval Observatory’s station in Flagstaff. (M 7622) _ _.
