Kálmán Mikszáth (1847-1910) was a Hungarian novelist and journalist, whose novels contained social commentary, satire and humorous anecdotes. His early stories were based on the lives of peasants and artisans. His later stories became increasingly critical of the aristocracy and the burden they placed on Hungarian society.
