Named in honor of M. Antonella Barucci, planetary scientist at the Istituto di Astrofisica Spaziale in Rome. A prolific contributor to the study of the physical properties of minor planets, Barucci has carried out both photometric and astrometric observations at the telescope and has studied minor planet body shapes and surface light-scattering properties in the laboratory.
