Ivan Osipovich Yarkovsky (1844-1902) was a talented Russian engineer who put forward the idea that asymmetric heating of the planets by the sun can produce an additional force. The “Yarkovsky Effect” is indeed noticeable in the motions of some artificial earth satellites and small minor planets.
