Named in honor of Juhani Kakkuri, since 1977 director of the Finnish Geodetic Institute, interested also in astronomy. He developed for practical use the stellar triangulation method first presented by Väisälä {see planet  (1573)}. The Institute measured and still measures standard baselines in various continents using the Väisälä interference method. (M 18453) _ _.
