Ingrid Daubechies (b. 1954), a Belgian physicist and mathematician, became professor of applied mathematics at Princeton University in 2011. The first woman president of the International Mathematical Union (2011--2014), she is well known for her work on wavelets, one of which is now used in the JPEG 2000 standard.
