Named for the home town of the wife of the second discoverer, Takachiho is located at the center of Miyazaki {see planet  (6905)} prefecture in Kyusyu, some 900 km southwest of Tokyo, and surrounded by mountains. Takachiho is famous for its legends and myths on the root of gods. The most famous is the legend of Amano-Iwato of Amaterasu-Ohmikami {see planet  (10385)} (the god of the sun). This story has been handed down by Yokagura (sacred music and dance) as performed by farmers. (M 22250) _ _.
