Named in honor of Jean Lecacheux, a planetary scientist at Paris Observatory. Lecacheux is one of the most assiduous observers of solar system objects. He discovered the Saturnian satellite Heléne. At Pic du Midi Observatory he developed a planetary observational station with which he fruitfully imaged Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, the jovian impacts of comet D/1993 F2, as well as other comets and minor planets.
