Named for the French sculptor Auguste Rodin (1840–1917). In his sculptures Rodin tried to express personal inner feelings with bearing and gestures. He was one of the first sculptors to abandon the classicistic style of Thorvaldsen and Canova {see planets  (6257) and  (6256)}. Among his most famous works are ‘The Citizens of Calais’, ‘The Kiss’ and ‘The Thinker’. (M 26765) _ _.
