Named in honor of Vladimír Porubčan (1940– ) of the Astronomical Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava. Porubčan has worked on obtaining and analyzing observations of meteor showers. His work on the Taurid complex, together with Ján Stohl {see planet  (3715)}, is widely recognized. Porubčan took an active part in the organization of the international conferences Meteoroids and their Parent Bodies in Smolenice in 1992, and in particular Meteoroids in Bratislava in 1994.
