Tenzing Norgay (1914-1986) was a Nepalese mountain climber of the Sherpa tribe. On 1953 May 29, as members of a British party, Tenzing Norgay and the New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary became the first to scale the summit of Mount Everest---and return. The name was suggested by M. Tichy.
