Named for Alexander Archipenko (1887–1964), Ukrainian-American sculptor. He was the first to transform the cubism and abstract style of paintings into figurative sculptures (plastic art). He studied first in Kiev, then in Paris and Berlin, emigrating to the U.S. in 1923. Among his works are Queen of Saba and King Salomon. (M 26766) _ _.
